Alejandro Guissasola wins the Ham Carvers' Competition at the Feria de Aracena

The carver Alejandro Guissasola, from Alcalá de Guadaira (Sevilla), has been proclaimed champion of the XXIX Ham Carvers' Competition of the Feria de Aracena, held this Sunday at the Recinto Ferial. He has also taken the prize for the best creative dish.
Alejandro Guissasola, a ham cutter from Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville), has won the XXIX Ham Cutters' Competition of the Feria de Aracena, held this Sunday at the Recinto Ferial. Guissasola took the overall first prize and also the award for the best creative plate, in which he made a nod to the Gruta de las Maravillas de Aracena.
Six cutters took part in the contest, and they had to cut an entire Iberian piece within a maximum of two hours. Second place went to Felipe Gil, from Carcaboso (Cáceres), and third to Manuel Aguilar, from Montequinto (Seville).
The rest of the Feria
The mayor of Aracena, Manuel Guerra, has said that the first weekend of the Feria passed without incidents of relevance and highlighted the intergenerational atmosphere. Regarding the storm on Saturday afternoon, he indicated that it did not reduce the crowd thanks to the Pabellón Cubierto and the marquees installed.
The programme continues next weekend. On Friday 23 there is Showcooking and Jornadas Técnicas, both at 12:00. On Saturday 24, at 13:00, the Cruzcampo «Cañón perfecto» competition is held. On Sunday 25 there will be a new Demostración del Despiece del Cerdo Ibérico and Catas Comentadas de la DOP Jabugo, at 12:00, and at 17:30 the winner of «Su Peso en Jamón» will be announced.
The Gala del Jamón
On Friday 23 the Gala del Jamón is held at the Teatro Sierra de Aracena, with the exaltation by the Canal Sur Radio presenter Pepe Da Rosa. At the event, the Jamón de Oro will be presented, which this year goes to Los Romeros de Jabugo SL, and the Bellota de Oro, to Francisco Casero.
Tickets for the Gala are free and can be reserved through the «Aracena Activa» app and on the same afternoon of the event at the box office.
