Aracena celebrates its XXIX Ham Fair on the weekends of October 16 to 18 and 23 to 25

The Fair has already opened its doors. The Aracena City Council inaugurated this Friday, October 16, the XXIX edition, which will run until Sunday the 25th, with the Recinto Ferial on Avenida de la Reina de los Ángeles as the venue.
Representatives of the collaborating administrations took part in the opening ceremony. The Government subdelegate in Huelva, María José Rico, put the sector at more than 1,200 jobs and more than 140 companies. The regional delegate for Agriculture, Álvaro Burgos; the deputy for Infrastructures of the Diputación, Manuel Cayuela; the president of Caja Rural del Sur and of the FOE, José Luis García-Palacios; the president of the DOP Jabugo, Guillermo García-Palacios; and the mayor, Manuel Guerra, also spoke, recalling that it is 30 years since the first edition.
The note corrects the name of the company distinguished with the Jamón de Oro: according to this information, the award has gone to Los Romeros de Jabugo SL, parent company of the brand 'La Jabugueña', and not to Manuel Romero Delgado, SL, as the published news item indicated.
This October, Aracena is holding the twenty-ninth edition of its Regional Ham and Iberian Pork Fair, which will take place over two consecutive weekends: from October 16 to 18 and from October 23 to 25. The venue, covering more than 30,000 square metres and located next to the Gruta de las Maravillas, will have free entry.
Exhibitors and activities
According to the Aracena City Council, 17 companies from the Iberian sector from Huelva, Sevilla, Badajoz and Salamanca are confirmed to occupy the stands in the Pabellón Ferial. The adjoining marquee, dedicated to other products and crafts, will host 37 companies.
The programme includes carving and slicing demonstrations, the traditional Concurso de Cortadores (Sunday 18, at 13:00), technical sessions for professionals and Showcooking (Friday 23, at 12:00), popular tastings (Saturdays, at 22:00) and musical performances.
The Su Peso en Jamón contest
One of the standout contests is Su Peso en Jamón, a draw among those who weigh themselves beforehand on the scale. The prize is their kilos converted into Iberian hams and the winner will be announced on Sunday the 25th in a public draw at 17:30.
Gala del Jamón
On Friday the 23rd, the Gala del Jamón will be held at the Teatro Sierra de Aracena. It will feature the exaltation by the Canal Sur Radio presenter Pepe Da Rosa and will host the gastronomic twinning between the Feria del Jamón de Bellota 100% Ibérico of the DOP Los Pedroches, in Villanueva de Córdoba, and the Aracena fair. The poster for the thirtieth edition, by the painter Luis Orquín Domínguez, will also be presented.
At the event, the Jamón de Oro will be awarded, which has gone to the firm Manuel Romero Delgado, SL, and the Bellota de Oro, to Francisco Casero, former president of the Comité Andaluz de Agricultura Ecológica (CAAE) and of the Fundación Savia.
Tickets and parking
Tickets for the Gala are free and can be obtained through the Aracena Activa app and on the afternoon of the event at the box office. The City Council will set up a parking area at the Huerta Panaderos, with 119 spaces for vehicles and 42 for motorhomes, and will increase the number of portable public toilets.
The mayor, Manuel Guerra, has highlighted the work of the City Council and the collaboration of the Diputación de Huelva, the Consejería de Agricultura, the Asociación de Empresarios de Aracena, Incedeca, the DOP Jabugo, Cruzcampo and Caja Rural.
