The Huelva City Council has launched the repainting of the road markings on 55 streets and avenues in the city, as well as on all the roundabouts owned by the municipality. The work began this week and will be carried out progressively over the coming months, with an estimated budget of 750,000 euros.

What is being repainted

The work includes the longitudinal lines that delimit and organise the lanes, the pedestrian crossings and other road markings on the pavement, as well as the signs identifying taxi and urban bus stops. The aim, according to the Mobility department, is to improve the visibility of the markings and contribute to the safety of pedestrians and drivers. Roundabouts owned by other administrations, such as the Junta de Andalucía or the Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva, are excluded.

The first roads

Among the roads initially included are avenida del Nuevo Colombino, avenida de la Ría, avenida Villa de Madrid, avenida del Alcalde Federico Molina Orta and avenida del Molino de la Vega. Plaza Doce de Octubre and the roundabouts of Molino de la Vega, Monumento al Marinero, Cervantes and Isla Cristina are also included. This list is open and may change as the planning progresses. The streets included in the municipal asphalting plans for 2026 and 2027 will not need a separate marking intervention, because the resurfacing of the road is already planned. The same criterion will apply to the sections affected by the bike lane works, which include repainting the road markings.

Traffic closures

The Mobility department has designed a work plan to cause the fewest possible disruptions to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. If the work requires closing streets, the closures will be announced in advance through the City Council's usual communication channels. The mayor of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, and the councillor for Mobility, Milagros Rodríguez, have visited the work being carried out in El Molino.
