Nearly 60 older people from Aljaraque travelled this Tuesday to Ayamonte to take part in a new twinning day between the two municipalities. The event continues the meeting that both localities held last November at the Centro de Participación Activa de Aljaraque.
Snack, music and dancing
The day centred on a traditional snack, live music and dancing, as well as the exchange of gifts between the representatives of both town councils. The councillor for Active Ageing and Care for the Elderly of Aljaraque, Cinta Rengel, accompanied the Aljaraque delegation, and for Ayamonte its mayor, Alberto Fernández, was present along with other municipal representatives.
Rengel thanked the Ayamonte municipality for its welcome and noted that «meetings like this one are essential to foster social relationships, share experiences and continue promoting active ageing».
Within the Month of Older People
The activity is part of the municipal initiatives to encourage participation, wellbeing and coexistence among older people. The Ayuntamiento de Aljaraque presented last October 12 the programme of the Month of Older People, with cultural, leisure and social activities throughout October, according to the council.
Who took part
The councillor Cinta Rengel was present at the event for Aljaraque, and the mayor of Ayamonte, Alberto Fernández, accompanied by other municipal representatives of the border town.
