The 28th Aljaraque Archaeology and Territory Conference got under way this Tuesday, October 20, at the Casino Minero de Corrales, the venue hosting the lectures this year and making its debut as the site. The event runs until Thursday, October 22, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
San Pedro Castle and ancient mining
The first session centred on two lectures. The first, on the cabezo de San Pedro and San Pedro Castle in Huelva, presented the results of the 2025 archaeological campaign and new contributions on the defensive structures, construction systems and stratigraphic sequence of the site. Diego González Batanero, Eduardo Prados González, doctors Alejandra Echevarría Sánchez and Ola Guerrero Chamero, from Ánfora Gestión Integral del Patrimonio, and José Manuel Beltrán Pinzón, from the University of Huelva, took part.
The second talk focused on ancient mining in Sotiel Coronada, given by Rubén Macías Fortes, holder of a master's degree in Historical and Cultural Heritage, who addressed the importance of this area for understanding the historical and economic evolution of the territory of Huelva.
The programme continues this Wednesday
The sessions will continue this Wednesday, October 21, with lectures by doctors Alejandro Cano Pérez and Javier Bermejo Meléndez, on the latest developments in the configuration of the protohistoric port of Huelva, and by Manuel Jesús Feria Ponce, who will offer data on the town of Aljaraque during the Modern Age.
The mayor of Aljaraque, Adrián Cano, highlighted at the opening "the importance of collaboration between institutions in events as relevant as this one" and stressed the role of the Asociación Cultural Kalathoussa, organiser of the conference together with the Town Council. The first deputy mayor and councillor for Culture, Ana Mora; the president of Kalathoussa, Pedro Campos, and the coordinator of the Marca Huelva, Pedro Yórquez, also took part in the event, and the mayor presented the latter with a miniature replica of the Mozarabic bell of Aljaraque.
How to attend
The lectures are held at the Casino Minero de Corrales until Thursday, October 22. Entry is free until full capacity is reached, and no prior registration has been indicated as necessary.
