Isla Cristina celebrates the 39th edition of the Atlantic Choral Festival on October 16, 17 and 18, which brings back the Templo de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores as its venue and gathers seven groups from Spain and Portugal.
The Atlantic Choral Festival returns to the Templo de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. It will be its 39th edition, held on October 16, 17 and 18, with performances every night from 21.00 hours.
Three nights and seven choirs
The programme brings together seven choral groups from different parts of Spain and Portugal.
—Friday, October 16: Coral Polifónica Isla Cristina and Coro de Cámara de Madeira (Portugal).
—Saturday, October 17: Coral Municipal de Miajadas (Cáceres) and Coral Al-Bojaira, from Cájar (Granada).
—Sunday, October 18: Coro de Voces Blancas Isaac Cueto Burgos, Coral Polifónica Padre José Mirabent, from Isla Cristina, and Coro de Voces del Mar, from Huelva.
Back to the temple
The festival thus returns to its usual venue at the Templo de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, a return that the two local choirs had been calling for throughout the year. According to the mayor, Jenaro Orta, recovering this space means returning to the place that identifies the festival and that is part of its history.
Damiana Barrera, president of the Coral Polifónica Padre José Mirabent, has stated that «the festival and the Iglesia de los Dolores go together». Ana María Vélez, president of the Coral Polifónica Isla Cristina, has thanked the municipal involvement and the support of the Obispado de Huelva and the parish.
Almost four decades
The event now totals 39 editions. Orta has recalled that this trajectory is the result of the work of numerous people and organisations, and has expressed his confidence that it will continue to grow. The organisation is already looking ahead to the next edition, in which the festival will turn 40.
How to attend
The performances take place at the Templo de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Isla Cristina on October 16, 17 and 18, every night from 21.00 hours. The organisation invites the residents of Isla Cristina and nearby municipalities to take part.
