The one-year Euribor closed September 2026 with an average of 3.247%, according to data published by the Banco de España. It is the reference index for most variable-rate mortgages, so its evolution directly marks the monthly payment of those who have this type of loan.

More expensive than in August and than a year ago

The figure rises compared with the previous month: in August 2026 the Euribor was 2.954%. The difference is almost three tenths in a single month. The comparison with last year is greater. In September 2025 the index stood at 2.172%, so it is now more than one point higher. For a variable mortgage that is revised with the September figure, that difference translates into a more expensive payment.

What it means for those who have a mortgage

The Euribor is usually revised every six or twelve months, depending on what is agreed in each loan. When the revision coincides with the September value, the new rate to be applied will be higher than that of the previous revision if that one was made with a lower Euribor. The Banco de España publishes these data on its interest rate statistics page, where the complete monthly series can be consulted.
