The bullfighting festival on Sunday, October 18 brought the Feria de Octubre de Trigueros to a close with a full house at the Plaza de Toros. The card was made up of Enrique Ponce, David de Miranda and the local novillero Guillermo Luna, with bulls from the El Freixo ranch. The afternoon's tally was eleven ears and four tails.
The afternoon's trophies
David de Miranda, the focus of the tribute for his ten years since taking the alternativa, won four ears and two tails in his two appearances, according to the Ayuntamiento de Trigueros. Guillermo Luna achieved four ears and one tail. Enrique Ponce took one ear in his first appearance and two ears and a tail in the second.
Before the event, the Banda de Música del Maestro Tejera, with the alguacilillos and the mules, paraded through the streets from the Ayuntamiento to the bullring. The rain appeared only during the first bull's work and afterwards gave way to sunshine.
A three-day fair
The Feria de Octubre was held on October 16, 17 and 18. The Gastroferia, the Feria de Muestras and the Feria de Vehículos brought together local and provincial companies. The Caseta Municipal hosted performances such as those by Los Alpresa, «La llave», the Trigueros artist Daniel The Best and the local DJ Rodri Clavero. There were also rides, a municipal urban dance workshop and a display of classic and tuning vehicles on calle Pacífico organised by the Asociación Mix Leopard Crew.
During the festival a minute's silence was observed in memory of the Trigueros rancher Manuel Ángel Millares, for years a promoter of this event.
The Ayuntamiento's assessment
The mayor, Vidal Blanco, has said that an event that had not been held for more than a decade has been revived: «We have given back to Trigueros a festival long awaited by a town that has the world of bulls in its DNA». The councillor for Festejos, Gracia Baquero, has stated that the fair has left «a Caseta Municipal and a Gastroferia with a magnificent atmosphere».
The day was attended by the delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Huelva, Berta Centeno, and the president of the Diputación Provincial de Huelva, David Toscano, together with the mayor of Trigueros and other institutional representatives.
