The Chilean actress, director and playwright Paulina García will receive the Ciudad de Huelva Award, the top honorary prize of the Festival de Huelva de Cine Iberoamericano, at its 52nd edition. The event will be held from November 13 to 21, as announced by the organization.
The award recognizes a career in Ibero-American audiovisual work that made the international leap with 'Gloria', by Sebastián Lelio, a role for which she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Platino Award for Best Female Performance at the first edition of these awards, in 2014. Her filmography includes titles such as 'La novia del desierto', 'Algunas bestias', 'Los 33', 'Horizonte', 'Little Men' —which earned her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards in 2017—, 'Las analfabetas', 'La cordillera', 'Mis hermanos sueñan despiertos', 'Querido trópico' (2024) and 'Amor es un monstruo'. On television she has appeared in series such as 'Narcos', 'Matar al padre', 'Cárcel de mujeres' and 'Now and Then', and this 2026 she premieres 'Alguien tiene que saber' and 'Catedrales'.
A return to Huelva
It is not the first time the performer has passed through the festival. At the 43rd edition, in 2017, she won the Silver Colón for Best Actress for 'La novia del desierto', directed by Cecilia Atán and Valeria Pivato, a film that also took that year's Golden Colón.
Her connection to this edition goes beyond the award: she takes part in the Official Competition Section with 'Las flores de Julia', by Cris Tapia Marchiori, and 'La vida es', by Lorena Villarreal.
With this recognition, Paulina García joins the list of professionals distinguished with the Ciudad de Huelva Award, which includes Jose Coronado, Cecilia Suárez, Nathalie Poza, Fernando Trueba, Pilar Castro, Fernando Tejero, Eduard Fernández, Alberto Rodríguez, Juana Acosta, Francisco J. Lombardi, Kiti Mánver, Darío Grandinetti and Jorge Perugorría, among others.
