Thousands of students from Huelva and its province will see films in cinemas during the Festival de Huelva de Cine Iberoamericano. The Primera Pantalla section, within the 52nd edition of the event, will screen seven films between November 13 and 21: five animated and two fiction films from Spain, France, Italy, Mexico and Belgium.

What is screened

The films are «Arco», by Ugo Bienvenu; «El chico de los pantalones rosa», by Margherita Ferri; «El tesoro de Barracuda», by Adrián García; «La luz de Aisha», by Shadi Adib; «Olivia y el terremoto invisible», by Irene Iborra; «Rescate congelado. Una película de huevos», by Gabriel Riva Palacio and Rodolfo Riva Palacio; and «Un pequeño mundo», by Laura Wandel. The selection is adapted to different ages and educational stages and addresses themes such as friendship, solidarity, bullying, environmental responsibility, social inequalities, family, identity, inclusion and the value of reading. The aim, according to the Festival, is for the cinema experience to continue afterwards with a dialogue in the classroom.

Short films in schools

The Cine y Valores programme takes short films directly to schools and accompanies them with meetings between filmmakers and students. With the Asociación Andaluza de Mujeres de los Medios Audiovisuales (AAMMA), «No pisar», by Rocío Sepúlveda; «Quejío de loba», by Andrea Ganfornina; «Tiempo y perdón», by Teresa Trasancos, and «Tsunami», by María Pulido will be screened. These works deal with gentrification, the loss of identity of neighbourhoods, inherited violence, the breaking of cycles of abuse, family trauma and the consequences of climate change. These sessions are in addition to those already announced with the Academia de Cine de Andalucía: «Inquilinos», by Adrián Ordóñez, and «Tiempo prestado», by Paco Ortiz.

Ventana Cinéfila

The educational programme is completed with the seventh edition of Ventana Cinéfila, an online approach to cinema in the classroom in collaboration with ProFestivales21. The three initiatives form a journey that goes from the collective experience of going to a cinema to the subsequent debate at the school.

How to take part

Schools interested in taking part in Primera Pantalla, Cine y Valores or Ventana Cinéfila should contact the Festival's Departamento de Actividades Educativas y de Desarrollo. The Primera Pantalla screenings take place from November 13 to 21.
